Reason for Nomination

She is always looking for creative way to educate her students. She implements hands-on learning strategies across the subject areas, provides unique learning experiences. Mrs. Peterson creates projects for her students to complete that engage different intelligences and learning styles. She is constantly looking for ways to make learning impact her student's education. An example of this is the students' animal project. She created 3 different options for her students to complete the assignment, including a Google Slides presentation, posters or dioramas. Another example includes a Native American project. The students are encouraged to investigate a Native American tribe by looking at traditions, customs, and their way of life. The students can create a Native American instrument, totem pole, Google Slides presentation, or a video about the tribe. She incorporates religion into all curriculum, including encouraging her students to donate to her school's Box of Joy mission for Cross Catholic Charities. Education is the number one priority for Mrs. Peterson. She truly wants all her students to be successful in their education, and to find joy in learning!

Fourth grade is a transitional year for students in level materials in addition to students missing over a quarter of in-person schooling last year and needing to recover material and learn new objectives. Mrs. Peterson finds a way to challenge or give extra support to her students to make sure they are learning the materials and have fun doing it. Mrs. Peterson also ensures her students understand how their faith grows in their daily lives and how the history of their faith along with Saints story can inspire them for great things.

Mrs. Peterson is a kind teacher that goes above and beyond to not only help her students but the greater community as well. In this picture, she is standing with her students and they made thank you cards for local veterans. In addition, she had the students make an "honor wall" to veterans along with the rest of the school that is in the church that honors past and present veterans within each students' family. This shows that Mrs. Peterson helps her students on an individual and collaborative level in her teaching that reflects why she deserves this honor and St. Joe's as well. The Principal even visited the classroom to share a presentation of veterans and the collaboration Mr. Van Rixel models to his teachers and students alike is a testament to the outstanding leadership in this school from the top down to the amazing teachers, such as Mrs. Peterson. Emma says, "The best part about Mrs. Peterson today was that she is smart and tells us to love God and to be kind to others - especially our veterans."  This was an amazing project (one of many) and in addition the school children are using technology to learn about Native Americans making slide show presentations, dioramas, posters, and creating an artifact about Wisconsin tribes. The diversity and rich culture that Mrs. Peterson brings to her lesson plans makes learning fun and engaging for all of her students.

It is with great honor to nominate Karin Peterson as dynamic Catholic Schools teacher. Her dedication to catholic education and her students goes above and beyond what any parent could expect. She does very innovative lessons with her students. For example, she did this hands on activity where the kids did a project on Wisconsin lumberjacks....the students had a "choice" of what project they wanted to do that best fit their learning attributes. To culminate the activity and for students to feel more connected to the topic--Mrs. Peterson had the students dress up like lumberjacks and eat a lumberjack breakfast that she made for all the students!

During virtual learning, she made sure she checked in with the students everyday--multiple times a day. She would even schedule special sessions with students if they didn't understand something. She literally made herself available during all times of the day. In addition, she went out of her way to help the kids celebrate their birthday by driving to their house and participating in all of the birthday parades....she even stopped at all of the students houses in May to drop off Mother's Day presents for all the moms! She truly is just an amazing teacher who has a HUGE HUGE HUGE heart for her students and love for what she does. We are so blessed to have her at St. Joe's!

Mrs. Peterson is well deserving of this nomination. She is an amazing teacher who works so hard to keep her students learning in so many different ways. Not only is she dedicated to her students, she is also gives of her time to help the tuition assistance program. Mrs. Peterson volunteers to help with the Catholic Soles Walk each year that helps raise money for our Angel fund. (Shoe collection pictured below.)
My son Noah is in her class this year and he is always excited to see what she will come up with next. Mrs. Peterson not only teaches the content but appeals to so many different learning styles. She does a lot of hands on learning, experiments and helps the kids relate their assignments to ways they might use it in the real world.
Not only is she a fantastic teacher but she is a person the kids can look up to as a role model. She has such a positive attitude and wears a big beautiful smile on her face all day. She lifts the kids spirits without even trying.

Mrs. Peterson is wonderful at making all the children in her class aware of what they are good at and she plays off of those skills to help improve others. In the beginning of the year she mentioned to my son that she could tell he was a good leader. Since then his confidence has skyrocketed and i feel that he is now constantly working to be better and better at being a good leader. She has showed him that when people look up to you, you also need to be setting a good example for them. Mrs. Peterson's heart is fully in her work and the kids shine because of it.

Please strongly consider her for this award. She works so hard and deserves to be recognized for all her efforts.

Mrs. Peterson encourages our class to be a light for others with school-wide service projects such as: The Souls Walk where we collected 524 pairs of shoes for St. Vincent De Paul and raised money for our school. We also help communities around the world with the Box of Joy Christmas project. My teacher helps me learn new things with our google slide shows and she helps my classmates and I with our school work. Mrs. Peterson is very kind and patient just like Jesus. After class presentations we always say and write a positive comment and give that comment to our classmates on a sticky note. Our teacher deserves this award because she is always uplifting and is an excellent teacher!

Mrs. Peterson and the whole school supports Catholic service projects such as the Box of Joy project. She encourages her students to think and act as disciples of Jesus. Between St. Joe’s School and CFM it packed 9 huge shipping boxes with 141 shoe size boxes and raised $1,352 to send to Cross Catholic for shipping the boxes to children in third world countries so they can receive a Christmas gift!

Mrs. Peterson is an amazing teacher for so many reasons. I have had the wonderful opportunity to have her teach my children two years in a row. She goes above and beyond by sending weekly email connections to summarize the classroom learning. She is always available and present to my children, even my daughter that is no longer in her class. Mrs. Peterson is working to make her students faith-filled learners; my daughter often comes home thanking me for sending her to a Catholic school. She also is working to help her students with life skills including the use of technology. The students have become quite proficient with various google tools, needed especially during this global pandemic.

Her patience with each student is evident. My daughter is motivated to learn under her guidance.

My favorite thing was attending parent-teacher conference, where she sat back and my daughter was completely prepared to present her own conference. Mrs. Peterson has taught my daughter organizational skills to prepare her notes and to be able to verbalize to me what her strengths and growth areas are.

For these many reasons, I feel Mrs. Peterson is a Catholic school teacher that goes above and beyond my expectations for a teacher. My nomination for her is given whole-heartedly, and I am blessed to have her in my children's lives.
